7 medium onions
7 bouillon cubes (I like chicken but you can use beef)
7 cups of water
1 stick of butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Freshly grated nutmeg to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Slice the onions thin and cook over low heat in the butter. Cook until the onions are clear and starting to turn brown.
Add the bouillon and water. Let cook over low heat for several hours. I like to make it the day before serving. Salt and pepper to taste and then grate nutmeg to taste.


You can serve this in the French way with bread and cheese on top.

I was given this recipe in 1969 by a woman who had lived in France. It was given to her by her next door neighbor who was an older French woman. The nutmeg is the secret ingredient.
