Oil, for frying
1/2 c. cornmeal
1 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
2 lbs. fresh okra, sliced 1/2 inch thick
1/2 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oil in a large, heavy bottomed skillet or Dutch oven.
In a medium bowl, combine cornmeal, flour and seasonings. Mix well.
In another bowl, add buttermilk. Dip okra in buttermilk and then dredge in cornmeal mixture to coat well.
Carefully add okra to the hot oil and cook until golden brown.
Remove from oil, drain on paper towels, and serve immediately.
