½ cup flour
¼ tsp pepper
2 pounds beef stew
2 tablespoon shortening
6 cups water
3 medium potatoes cut into 1 inch cubes
4 carrots cut into 1 in pieces
½ cup diced celery
½ cups diced onion
pinch of salt
2 beef bouillon

Directions:
Directions:
Mix flour with salt and pepper. Coat meat with the flour mixture. Melt shortening in large skillet and brown meat thoroughly.

Add water heat to boiling Reduce heat: cover and simmer 2 hours. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Simmer for 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.

If you want the stew thickened mix 1 cup with 2-4 tablespoon flour and wisk in to the cooked meat and vegetables stiring constantly.
