1 pound elbow macaroni
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
4 cups milk
16 ounce shredded sharp cheddar cheese (4 cups)

Cook pasta according to package directions
Meanwhile, in a medium sauce pan, melt butter
Stir in flour, Salt, pepper and nutmeg
Stir in milk until smooth
boil over medium high heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly remove from heat
Stir in cheese until melted, Add cooked pasta and toss until well blended
Serve immediately
