1/4 cup oil
2 lbs stew beef or chuck steak
5 onions quartered or sliced
12 large mushrooms
1 tsp meat sauce, HP or Worcestershire
1 tsp tomato paste, or ketchup or chili sauce
3 tbsp flour
1 cup consomme or beef broth
1/2 cup red wine dry
1 bay leaf, 1/2 tsp thyme, 1/2 tsp marjoram, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Brown beef in oil. Saute onion and mushrooms. Add HP sauce tomato paste and flour. Add consomme red wine and stir just until it boils. Add bay leaf, thyme, marjoram, salt and pepper. Cover and cook in oven at 250ºF for 3 hours. Add 1/2 cup wine 2 times during cooking. Serve with mashed potatoes.
