5 large apples, cored and thinly sliced
1 teaspoon lemon juice
¾ cup sugar
¼ cup butter or margarine
1 egg beaten
½ cup sifted flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
⅛ teaspoon salt

Directions:
Directions:
1. Place apples in a well greased 10 inch pie pan, sprinkle with lemon juice;cover with ¼ cup sugar

2. Cream together butter and remaining ½ cup sugar; add egg and milk

3. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; mix with creamed mixture. Spread over fruit.

4. Bake in moderate oven 350º 45 minutes. Serve hot or cold, with thin thin custard sauce or whipped cream. Makes 8 servings.

CUSTARD SAUCE:

Combine 3 beaten egg yolks, ¼ cup sugar and dash of salt. Stir in 2 cups scalded milk. Cook over hot water, stirring constantly, until mixture coats spoon. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Chill Makes about 2½ cups.
