1 cup cornmeal
1/3 cup flour, self-rising
1/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup onions, chopped

Buttermilk (approximately 1/2-1 cup)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oil in pot. Mix all ingredients, adding buttermilk a little at a time (until you have it at the right consistency). Your batter will be fairly stiff--it should drop from a spoon into the hot oil. Put only a few hush puppies in at a time so you can watch and turn them as they brown.

Personal Notes:
This is Fay Watson's recipe that we have enjoyed over the years. He cooked these at the 4th of July family reunions we used to have at Papa Watson's in the country.
