½ c. butter
½ tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1¼ c. finely chopped dates
2 eggs lightly beaten
½ c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts
2½ c. Rice Krispie Cereal©
1 jar red decorating sugar
Frosting:
1½ c. powdered sugar
½ tsp. vanilla
¼ tsp. peppermint extract (if desired)

Directions:
Heat butter over medium heat. Add salt, sugar and eggs. Blend in dates and vanilla. Cook 5 minutes. Turn heat to low and gradually add flour. Cook stirring constantly 7-10 minutes. Stir in nuts and cereal. Shape into strawberry shapes and sizes. Roll cookie in red sugar to coat. For icing: In medium bowl, mix powdered sugar and butter with spoon or electric mixer on low speed. Stir in vanilla. peppermint extract, food coloring and milk. Beat to make frosting smooth and spreadable. If frosting is too thick, beat in more milk, a few drops at a time. If frosting becomes too thin, beat in a small amount of powdered sugar. Use a decorators tip to add green leaves to the tops of the strawberries.
