1⅓ c. boiling water
1 c. quick oats
½ c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. sugar
½ tsp. salt
1½ c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 beaten eggs
Topping:
6 tsp. melted butter
½ c. brown sugar
¼ c. cream or canned milk
½ tsp. vanilla
1 c. flaked coconut
½ c. chopped nuts

Directions:

Grease and flour a 9"X13" cake pan, set aside. Mix boiling water and quick oats together and allow to cool. Mix remaining ingredients (except flour) together. Add cooled oatmeal and mix well. Gradually stir in flour. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake at 350º for 35 minutes. Cool completely. For topping; combine all ingredients and spread on cooled cake. Place under a broiler until topping bubbles - about 2 minutes.
