3½ cups white sugar
10 oz. can evaporated milk
1 cup Karo Syrup
¼ lb. butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
optional ingredient: nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Add all ingredients in a 2 quart sauce pan. Cook until mixture starts to boil. Should reach soft ball stage on a candy thermometer.

Remove from heat and beat with wooden spoon. Do no put in a mixer to beat.

This is the tricky part; beat mixture until cooled enough that you can put into a square glass dish to set.

No one in my family has been able to make this wonderful fudge. It became Grandma (Goldie) Bennett's Christmas fudge that we all just couldn't wait for her to make. These ingredients and directions were all that she would give my mother, who never could make it right. She always said that Grandma left something out on purpose. Anyway, give it a try and be patient beating it! I think it may take a while.
