1 cup sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup margarine
2 eggs
4 cups flour
2 teaspoon soda
2 teaspoon vanilla
This is a double batch, but if you are going to have the mess, might as well make a ton. They freeze well, frosted or unfrosted.

Frosting
¼ cup of butter
3 cups of powdered sugar
water
vanilla
food coloring
sprinkles, colored sugar, red hots, etc.

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients. Roll out to desired thickness. Cut into shapes and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375º for approx. 8 minutes.
Frosting- melt butter. add powdered sugar, add water to desired consistency. Can add a little vanilla if desired.

The boys and I would make these for every holiday and birthday. They loved taking their uniquely decorated cookies as a school treat (back in the day when home made treats could be taken to school) They would love to roll them out and cut with the cookie cutters. Some would be thick and some thin. They didn't really like to frost them but they always wanted to throw the sprinkles and red hots on. It would be a royal mess, flour and sprinkles everywhere, but it was always fun for them!
