2 Tablespoons butter
3 large Vidalia Onions or any sweet onion
2 Cups (8 ounces) shredded Swiss Cheese
2 Cups mayonnaise or light mayo
1 - 8 ounce can sliced water chestnuts drained and chopped
¼ Cup dry white wine
1 garlic clove, minced
½ teaspoon hot sauce

Directions:

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium high hear. Add the coarsely chopped onion and sauté ten minutes or until tender. Stir together the shredded Swiss Cheese and the next 5 ingredients. Stir in the cooked onion, blending well. Spoon mixture into a lightly greased two quart baking dish, or several small baking dishes. Bake in a preheated 375º oven for 25 minutes and let stand for 10 minutes. Serve with your choice of chips or crackers.

This is the one appetizer I enjoy making for folks because they enjoy eating it so much! I have had many requests for this recipe. It is a real winner. You can make it ahead of time and bake it
right before you serve it. I have even frozen it and then baked it after I defrost it. Please try it, you will be happy you did! It makes 6 cups.
