One bag of fresh cranberries
1 cup sugar
1 small package of cherry Jello
1 cup boiling water
1 small box sliced frozen strawberries, thawed
1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Wash and pick over the cranberries, discarding any which are not firm to the touch. Grind up cranberries in a large bowl. Stir the sugar into the cranberries until well mixed. Let the mixture set for one to two hours. Dissolve the cherry Jello in the boiling water, stirring until well dissolved. Add the Jello mixture to the cranberries. Add thawed strawberries and chopped pecans. Combine all ingredients until well mixed. Pour into a bowl or mold and chill in the refrigerator until set, preferably overnight.

Mother, known as Nanny to Carrie and her cousins, always made this salad for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I can never remember a holiday meal it was not served. One memorable Christmas after we kids were grown, she prepared it with extraordinary emotion. After that we always called it "Nanny's Crying Christmas Salad."
