Brownie Layer

1 1/4 cups flour (sifted)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
4 eggs, slightly beaten
2 cups white sugar
1 cup butter, softened
4 oz. of unsweetened baking chocolate (melted)
2 tsp vanilla

Grease a 10" x 15" pan, In bowl stir together flour, baking powder and salt. In mixing bowl beat the eggs slightly, then gradually add sugar blending well, then add softened butter, melted chocolate and vanilla and mix well. Slowly, add the flour mixture to this and spread into the prepared pan and set aside.
 

Cake Layer

1 cup flour (sifted)
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 egg whites
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup light corn syrup (divided)
2 egg yolks
1 tsp almond extract
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup milk
2 Tbsp butter

Directions:
Directions:
In bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt, set aside. In small mixing bowl beat egg whites until foamy then add 1/4 cup corn syrup and beat until stiff, set aside. In mixing bowl beat egg yolks, 1/4 cup corn syrup, almond extract and vanilla until thickened. In a sauce pan heat milk and butter to boiling then slowly add to egg yolk mixture while mixing. Now slowly add flour mixture to egg yolk mixture and blend well, then gently fold the egg whites into this a spoon over the brownie layer in pan. Bake bars at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes until lightly browned. When cool frost.
 

Chocolate Frosting


Ingredients:

6 Tbsp. butter (softened)
2 cups powder sugar (sifted)
1 oz. of unsweetened baking chocolate (melted)
2 Tbsp. cold coffee
1/4 cup walnuts, chopped (reserve for topping)

In mixing bowl combine all ingredients, except the walnuts and beat until well blended. If needed to thin using a few drops of cold coffee. Spread on cooled bars and sprinkle with walnuts.

Mom would make these bars for graduation parties and different events. They are a family favorite. Jeannie especially would ask for them for her Birthday dessert.
