1/2 c. Molasses
1 T Butter
1 T Sugar
2/3 c. Boiling Water
1 t. Baking Soda
1 t. Ginger, grated
1/2 t. Cinnamon
1 Egg, well beaten
1 c. Flour
1c. Chopped Nuts and Raisins (Mrs Lewis recommends walnuts and almonds)

Directions:
Directions:
In a bowl mix molasses, butter, and sugar. Sprinkle with Baking Powder. Pour boiling water over this mixture and stir to dissolve. Let cool. Add remaining ingredients except for flour, nuts, and raisins and mix well. Add flour and mix to form a dough. Add nuts and raisins and stir to combine. Pour into a small, greased loaf pan and bake for 20-30 minutes at 350 degrees until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
