Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1½ cup sugar
4 eggs, separated
2 cups flour, all purpose
3 t. baking powder
¼ t. salt
1 cup light cream (I use Pet Milk or whole milk)
1 t. vanilla

Easy Chocolate Frosting--
1 stick butter
⅓ cup cocoa
2 cups sugar
⅔ cup Pet Milk (or whole milk)
1 t. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven 350º. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Beat egg whites until stiff. Set aside. Cream butter and sugar and add unbeaten egg yolks one at a time. Mix well. Add flour mixture and Pet Milk, alternating--starting with flour and ending with flour. Add vanilla. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in 2 9-inch cake pans for 25 - 30 minutes or until done. Icing--Melt butter slowly in heavy saucepan. Add other ingredients except vanilla. Boil 4-6 minutes (Drop a couple of drops of icing in a cup of water so it will stay together and form a soft ball). Add vanilla and cool. Beat to spreading consistency and spread between layers and on top of cake.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This icing is similar to Mama's. She used 1 c. milk (not Pet) and less butter. If you like icing, make 1 and 1/2 recipes.
