Cookie Dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
½ cup soft shortening
1⅓ cup brown sugar
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
½ tsp. nutmeg
1 egg
1 cup finely chopped, unpeeled apple
1 cup raisins
1 cup nuts
¼ cup apple juice or milk

Glaze:
3 T. milk
2 T. butter
2 cups sifted powdered sugar
½ tsp. vanilla

Cookies:
Preheat oven to 400º. Sift flour with soda. Mix shortening, sugar, salt, cinnamon, cloves, numeg and egg. Stir in half of flour mixture, then nuts, apples and raisins. blend in apple juice, then remaining flour mixture. Bake 11-15 minutes. Spread with vanilla glaze, if desired.

Glaze:
Heat milk and butter until butter melts. Remove from heat. Stir in powdered sugar and beat. Add vanilla.
