½ c butter
1 c buttermilk
1 1/2 c sugar
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 T cocoa
2 ½ c cake flour
2 oz red food coloring
1 ½ t soda
1 T vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Steps
1. Cream butter, sugar, and eggs.
2. Make a paste of red food coloring and cocoa and add to creamed mixture.
3. Mix salt, buttermilk and vanilla, set aside.
4. Alternant buttermilk mixture and flour into creamed mixture. Beat well.
5. Mix soda and vinegar. Fold into batter.
6. Bake 30 minutes in 2 9” pans. Pans should be prepared with butter and lightly floured.
 

Butter Cream Frosting

5 T flour
1 c butter
1 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 c milk

Steps
1. Mix flour and milk, cook over low heat until thick, stirring CONSTANTLY or it will get lumpy.
2. Set in refrigerator until cold.
3. Cream sugar, butter and vanilla.
4. Add flour mixture and beat until like whipped cream.

Growing up my grandmother would always make this for everyone's birthday. We have kept up the birthday tradition for the most part.

This cake is so awesome but not so easy to make.
