2 1/2 C flour, 2 T. brown sugar, 1 T. baking powder, 1 t. cinnamon, 1/2 t. salt, 8 T. butter, grated on a box grater, 1 egg, 3/4 C buttermilk, 1 T. vanilla, 2 small, or 1 large apple, chopped (skins on), cinnamon & sugar for sprinkling. Glaze: 4 T. butter, 1/2 C maple syrup, 2/3 C powdered sugar, 2 t. vanilla

Sift first five dry ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Cut in butter. Gently stir in chopped apples until coated in the flour mixture..Add egg, buttermilk and vanilla and mix gently until just combined. Pat into a round and score the top with a serrated knife into eight wedges. Transfer to a parchment covered baking sheet. Brush with buttermilk and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Bake at 400º for about 15 min.

When the scones are done, pour the maple glaze over the top while they're still hot.
