1-1/2 c. sugar
2/3 c. butter
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 c. milk
2 c. flour, plus 1 T flour
1 t. cinnamon
½ t. cloves
2 t. baking powder
Pinch of salt
1 c. raisins

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter.
Add the eggs and the milk and mix well.
Sift together 2 c. flour, cinnamon, cloves, baking powder and salt and add to first mixture.
Toss the raisins with 1 T flour to coat (so they don’t sink to the bottom of the cake) and gently stir them into the mixture.
Pour into a greased and floured 8” square cake pan and bake at 350 degrees until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean, 30 to 40 minutes.
Cool on a wire rack.
You may, while hot, spread butter on top of the cake and sprinkle sugar over the butter.
