1/2 c. shortening or margarine
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. coarsely mashed bananas
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. nuts (optional)

Glaze:
1/2 mashed banana
1/2 t vanilla
powdered sugar (enough to make a glaze consistency)
1 T finely chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening or margarine, sugar and eggs. Add flour, baking powder and baking soda. Add bananas, vanilla (and nuts). Bake 40 minutes in 9x13 pan at 325º glass/ 350º metal.

Make ingredients for glaze. Pierce HOT cake with fork and spread glaze over cake.

Irma made this cake for as long as I can remember. She always referred to it as "Norma Jean's Banana Cake." Who was Norma Jean? No one seems to know.
