1 1/2 c sugar
3/4 c margarine
1 c water
1 c raisins, chopped (optional)
1 t cinnamon
1/2 t allspice
1/4 t cloves
1/4 t nutmeg
4 eggs, separated
3 c flour
1 T baking powder
1/2 t salt
1/4 t baking soda
3/4 c chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
In a saucepan, combine the first 8 ingredients. Slowly heat, stirring till butter melts. Remove from heat. Cool. In a large mixing bowl, beat egg yolks lightly; gradually stir in cooled mixture. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and pecans. Stir into spice mixture. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form; fold into batter. Pour into greased pans. Bake at 325 for 35-40 minutes. Cool in pan 5 minutes before removing to wire racks.
