1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup butter flavor Crisco
3 cups sugar
5 eggs, beaten
3 cups cake flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 Tb. cocoa
1 cup buttermilk
1 Tb. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and crisco at medium speed. Slowly add sugar until very fluffy. Add eggs. Mix well. Sift dry ingredients. Add to butter mixture alternately with buttermilk and vanilla. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan; then pour in batter. Put in a COLD oven. Bake at 300º for 1 1/2 to 2 hours our until cake tester comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pan.

Other variations:
Plain Poundcake: eliminate cocoa and leave everything else the same
Brown sugar poundcake: substitute brown sugar for regular sugar
