2 cups self-rising flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
Approximately 1 cup of buttermilk

Directions:
Preheat oven to 425º. Lightly grease baking pan. Stir together dry ingredients. Cut shortening into flour using pastry blender or cris-crossing 2 table knives until mixture resembles course crumbs. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold in buttermilk to make soft dough. Use more buttermilk if needed.

Lightly flour counter surface and hands. Turn dough onto surface and gently pat into a 1 1/2 thick round cake. Using a 3" diameter biscuit cutter, cut the dough rounds and place onto baking pan. To use remaining dough, gently pat scraps together sprinkling a little buttermilk if necessary. Cut additional biscuits. Repeat if necessary.
