Ingredients: 4-1/2 cups Crisco 1/2 cup butter 2 tablespoons corn starch cream Crisco, butter and corn starch together and set aside 3 cups flour, sifted with 1 teaspoon salt mix 3 egg yolks with 1-1/2 cups ice water mix flour and egg mixture together
FILLING RECIPE 1 cup Crisco 1 cup butter 2 cups sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla 8 tablespoons flour 1 cup milk cream butter and sugar and add Crisco and other ingredients beat until smooth and creamy - around 15 minutes

Directions:Knead on well floured board (you will probably add a lot of additional flour). Cut into 4 pieces and refrigerate (covered with plastic wrap) for one hour. Roll out dough one at a time. Spread with Crisco mixture using 1/16th of Crisco on each piece of dough (note that only 1/4 of the Crisco will be gone after you put onto each of the 4 pieces). Fold the dough the dough into fourths, recover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for another hour. Repeat the process 3 more times. Takes a total of 5 hours. Roll out dough, cut into strips and roll on pins. NOTE: when winding pastries on pins, overlap the dough. You may want to try baking a few first to see how they turn out and what changes to wrapping you may want to make. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet - 375º for 15 minutes or until brownish. After baking, let cool slightly. Pull pastries off of pins CAREFULLY. Fill pastries with cream. Sprinkle with powdered sugar prior to serving. |
