5 cups oatmeal
2 cups flour
2½ cups sugar
1 cup ground raisins
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1 Tbl. cinnamon
2 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
1¾ cups melted lard (shortening)
½ cup hot water
4 eggs, beaten

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together lard (or shortening), eggs, sugar and vanilla. Dissolve soda in hot water and add alternately with flour and other dry ingredients. Add oatmeal and ground raisins. Let mixture stand 1½ hours. Roll out on floured surface to about ⅓ to ½ inch. Cut out with large 4-5" cookie cutter. Bake at 350º until light brown. After they are cool, frost with finger frosting!

Finger Frosting:
½ cup sugar
1 egg white
dash of cream of tartar and salt
2 tsp. corn syrup
½ tsp vanilla
Combine ingredients (except vanilla) in a saucepan. Heat and stir with your finger until temp is quite warm to finger. Beat til stiff. Add vanilla

This recipe makes a LOT of cookies! You may want to cut it in half. This was one of my favorite cookies that mom made!
