1 cup sugar
½ cup water
¼ cup light corn syrup
⅛ tsp. salt

Stir all ingredients together in a heavy saucepan and heat slowly until all sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue cooking and stirring. Test occasionally in ice water-done when it forms a hard ball. Quickly pour onto a greased platter. Now comes the fun part! Thoroughly grease your hands with butter. When cool enough to handle, gather into a ball and pull until white and firm. Shape into a rope, twist the rope and lay on wax paper. Break into pieces and wrap in wax paper.

Personal Notes:
Making taffy was a Christmas tradition when we were young. The ball of taffy was so hot that we would bounce it from one kid to the next when it began to hurt! The longer you could stand pulling, the whiter it got and the better it tasted. If I remember correctly, Linda, Sue and I did most of the pulling while Myles heckled, but we all enjoyed that sweet treat!
