1 loaf (day or two -old) French bread
6 large eggs
1 1/2 C milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 T brown sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
powdered sugar
maple syrup (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Generously butter a 9×13-inch baking pan. Place the bread in a single layer along the bottom of your pan.
In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar and cinnamon until blended. Arrange the bread in a large shallow baking dish, overlapping slices as necessary.
Pour milk mixture over the bread, turning the bread with spatula at least once so it is moistened throughout. Cover well, and place in the refrigerator overnight.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Once preheated, place the pan in the middle rack of the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden and bubbling.
Remove from the oven and transfer the pan to a heatproof surface to cool for about 15 minutes. Serve warm. May top with maple syrup and/ or fruit.
