"The tradition of Italian cooking is that of the matriarch. This is the cooking of grandma. She didn't waste time thinking too much about the celery. She got the best celery she could and then she dealt with it."--Mario Batali

Personal Notes:
My dear Auntie Vee gave me this recipe, she claims she doesn't cook so she had no recipes to give me. I know she doesn't cook much now since she will turn 92 in 2018, but she had a family of 5 to cook for and they were hearty eaters!!! I have made this pie several times and it is very nice to serve in summer. I have made it without the cherries added because I am not a fan of maraschino cherries, but they do add to the pie. Note: For those that don't know this is my Aunt Virgie from West Lafayette, Ohio, I found out her middle name was Verlee so I call her Auntie Vee!!!!
