1½ cup sugar
2 cups flour (save ½ cup flour to coat figs and nuts)
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. allspice
½ tsp. cloves
1 cup oil
3 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 T. vanilla
1 cup fig preserves, diced and chopped
2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Glaze
¼ cup buttermilk
½ cup sugar
¼ tsp. soda
1½ tsp. cornstarch
¼ cup oleo
1½ tsp. vanilla

Cake
Mix all dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Then add the following, mixing well after each addition: oil, eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, flour coated figs and nuts. Bake in 10" tube pan for 1 hour 15 minutes at 350º. Let cool for 10 minutes and remove from pan.

Glaze
Combine first 5 ingredients. Bring to a boil. Add vanilla. Cool a little and pour over cake.
