6 quarts cucumbers washed

1 ½ quarts vinegar (6 cups)
4 ½ lbs white sugar (9 cups)
1 oz celery seed
1 oz whole allspice
1 oz casea buds or cinnamon sticks

Directions:
Directions:
Put boiling water into crock or a suitable container. Add enough pickling salt to water so that an uncooked egg (in shell) will float.
Add cucs, leave for 2 days in covered container weigh cucs down with plate to make sure all are covered with brine. Change water on 2nd day and rinse well.
Add 1 good tbsp of powdered alum to boiling water. Add cucs and cover.
Drain and rinse again after 2 days

Put spices in a cloth or cheese cloth bag and tie shut.
Boil this with sugar and vinegar about 10 minutes.
Pour over cucumbers in crock and cover.
Drain and reheat vinegar/sugar mixture every day for 2-3 days.
Pickles can then be put into sterilized jars.
