"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

Personal Notes:
Mamaw was Renna's grandmother. Both Mamaw and Renna’s mom were named Geraldine, so Renna’s mom shortened her name to Jerri. This idea comes from Mamaw; she loved children. Popcorn isn't so hard to make but when you're feeding 10 + children, it takes a big pan and even bigger bowl.

Mamaw raised 5 children of her own, then 16 grandchildren. She also took in 10 foster children, all at one time, and cared for them over many years. So on Friday or Saturday nights, she made us popcorn while we played games, or watched a movie on a black and white TV. Since we would get thirsty as we ate the popcorn, she would give us slices of apples, instead of water, since we might wet the bed. -Renna Pehle
