2 lbs. halibut fillets or steaks (3/4 to 1 inch thick)
salt and pepper
¾ c sour cream
¼ c fine dry bread crumbs
¼ tsp. garlic salt
1 ½ Tbsp. chopped chives
2 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
1 tsp. paprika
Chopped fresh parsley and lemon wedges (optional)

Preheat oven to 400º. Put a large shallow baking dish in oven to preheat.

Wipe halibut with damp cloth and cut into serving size pieces (about 3 x 5 inches), if desired. remove pan from oven, grease it, and arrange halibut pieces in single layer, without crowding. Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.

In a bowl, mix together sour cream, bread crumbs, garlic salt and chives. Spread mixture evenly over halibut. Sprinkle evenly with Parmesan cheese and paprika.

Bake uncovered until halibut flakes readily when protruded in thickest portion with a fork.

For 1 inch thick piece of fish, measured at thickest part, allow to cook for 10 minutes. Allow same ratio of thickness to cooking time - 1 inch : 10 minutes - for halibut of all thicknesses.

Serve immediately, garnished with chopped parsley and lemon wedges, if desired.
