Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Dough
2 cups All Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 Butter Flavored Crisco
1/2 milk, plus more if needed
About 4 cups Vegetable Oil for frying

Fruit Filling
6 to 7 ounces dried fruit, (peaches, apples, apricots)
2 cups water or peach nectar
1 cup sugar
4 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon vanilla

Chocolate or Cream filling see recipe for Chocolate Pie or Coconut Pie & Banana Pudding. Add 1 heaping tablespoon cornstarch. You want this filling to be thicker than for a regular pie. It shouldn't be runny at all.

Directions:
Dough
In medium bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in the shortening until well incorporated in the crust. Add milk and stir until the dough sticks together. Divide into 10 portions. Roll each portion out on a floured surface into a 5 or 6 inch circle that is about 1/8 inch thick. You can use a saucer as a guide to cut out dough.. Place 2 tablespoons of filling in the center of each dough circle. Wet the edges with a small amount of milk. Fold dough circle in half getting the edges even. Crimp with a fork around the edge to seal the filling in. Place pies on a platter or cookie sheet to refrigerate until you are ready to fry.

Fruit Filling
Place the dried fruit in a large saucepan and add the water and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to a simmer and cook until the fruit is tender and the sugar is dissolved, about 20 minutes. Add all the other ingredients and mash together with a potato masher or fork.

In a large heavy duty pot fitted with a deep fry thermometer, heat oil to 350º. Oil should be 4 inches deep. Add 2-3 pies to hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels. You can sprinkle with a cinnamon and sugar mixture if desired. ( 1/2 cup sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon cinnamon)

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Mother and the ladies in our church use to make fried pies to raise money for different church projects. They always made apple pies at the church. At home mother made some fruit pies but our favorite was when she made chocolate. So delicious.
