3/4 c shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 c molasses
2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp salt
2 1/4 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the shortening, sugar, egg and molasses thoroughly. Blend in remaining ingredients and cover. Chill for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375º. Shape dough into balls, dip tops in sugar. Bake 3" apart. Bake 10-12 minutes. Removed cookies immediately from cookie sheet and set on cooling racks.
