1 whole chicken
2 T butter
2 C flour
1/4 t salt
1/4 C Crisco butter sticks
1 egg - beaten in a bowl
some milk, almost 1/2 C)

Directions:
Boil chicken with butter in big pot full of water. Cover, but let steam out, lid partially on. It will need to cook 1 - 1/4 hours.

In mixing bowl, add flour and Crisco stick, and cut together with two knives, till butter is very small. Add egg and salt. Mix. Add milk till doughy. Divide dough in 1/2, and roll out 1/2 very thin, and cut into strips, about 1" x 4", or 2" x 2". Then do other 1/2 of dough. Remove chicken from pot. With broth boiling, add dumplings one at a time. Bone chicken and add chicken pieces. Cover, and cook very low, for about 1 hour, stirring and checking every 15 minutes.
