Sweet dough (from Kolache recipe)
1 c. milk
½ c. white sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp. cornstarch
½ c. Crisco
2 tbsp. butter
5 tbsp. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla or butter flavoring

Directions:
Directions:
Roll out dough to ½ inch thickness. Cut into strips ½ inch thick. Wrap around greased 5 inch wooden dowels (to grease dowels, stick them in a jar with lard, and toss it around to completely cover dowels). Let rise on greased cookie sheet. Bake in a 450º oven for 10 minutes. Take culverts from the oven and immediately remove dowels from them. To make custard: cook milk, sugar, egg, and cornstarch in a double boiler until thick, mixing well; beat with an eggbeater. set aside. Mix together well; Crisco, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Add to first cold custard mixture and beat using an electric mixer. Fill culverts with custard mixture.
