8 slices bacon
1 cup diced onion
1 tsp garlic powder
2 cups diced ham
2 potatoes, diced into bite-sized pieces
2 cans white kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
5 cups chicken broth

Slice bacon into bite-size pieces. Cook in a large stock pot until crisp. Remove bacon to drain on paper towels. Reserve 1 Tablespoon bacon drippings in pan. Add diced onion and garlic to pan with bacon drippings and saute for about 2 minutes.

Add diced ham, beans, smoked paprika, salt and pepper to pan and stir to combine. Then add the broth and the potatoes. Bring soup to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Simmer for about 15 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Remove from heat and add bacon. Use an immersion blender and blend the soup until completely smooth.
