Ingredients: 2 gallons cucumbers sliced 2 cups salt 2 Tablespoons Alum (found in spice section) 5 pints vinegar 1.75 oz. pickling spice; tie this in cheese cloth 18 cups sugar

Directions:Day 1: Cover the sliced cucumbers and 2 cups salt with 1 gallon boiling water; Put these in a glass or stone crock covered for (7) days.
Day 8: Drain cucumber mixture and cover with 1 gallon boiling water-let stand overnight
Day 9: Drain cucumber mixture and cover with 1 gallon boiling water to which 2 T. of Alum has been added-let stand overnight
Day 10: Drain cucumbers and add 1 gallon boiling water-let stand overnight
Day 11: Drain cucumbers and cover with 5 pints boiling hot vinegar mixed with 12 cups sugar.adding tied cheese cloth filled with pickling spices-pour over pickles and let stand overnight
Day 12: Drain cucumbers reserving liquid. Reheat to boiling, reserved liquid but add additional 2 cups sugar pour over pickles-let stand overnight
Day 13: Drain cucumbers reserving liquid. Reheat to boiling, reserved liquid but add another 2 cups sugar-pour over pickles and let stand overnight
Day 14: Drain cucumbers - add 2 more cups of sugar. Let mixture come to a good boil. Ladle into pint jars using enough liquid to cover pickles and seal |

Notes: If you have any pickle juice left over, you might also want to can and seal this for any recipe that you add pickle to such as potato or macaroni salad, deviled eggs, etc.
