Cake:
⅔ c. butter or margarine
1¾ c. sugar
2 eggs
1½ tsp vanilla
3 c. flour
2½ tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1¼ c. milk

Sauce:
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp corn starch
2 c. water
¼ butter or margarine
2 tsp vanilla
2 tsp nutmeg

Cake:
Cream butter. Add sugar gradually, creaming till light. Add eggs and vanilla and beat till fluff. Sift dry ingredients together. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating after each addition. Beat 1 minute. Bake in greased and lightly floured 9x9 baking dish at 350º for 30-35 minutes. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan. Cool.

Sauce:
Mix sugar and corn starch in a saucepan. Gradually stir in water; bring to boiling and boil 1 minute, stirring constantly. Stir in butter and flavorings.
