Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 Cups sugar
1/2 cup white karo
1/2 cup water
Dash salt
2 stiffly beaten egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla
Nuts (if desired)

Directions:
Directions:
Stir sugar, karo, water and salt till dissolved. Boil to medium-ball stage (240º).
Slowly pour 1/3 of this mixture over 2 stiffly beaten egg whites, beating constantly.
Cook remaining syrup to very hard ball stage (265º). Test: Add several drops of syrup to tap water. Mixture will form a firm ribbon that bends when lifted from water.
Beat syrup into candy mixture; continue beating.
When mixture holds it's shape when dropped from teaspoon, add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Swirl each piece to a peak.
Double cooking takes longer, but it is a failure proof way to make divinity candy.
