1 c. sugar
4 c. flour
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. oleo
1 tsp. soda
3 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 c. warm water
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts (optional)
1 c. dates, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and oleo. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients, plus nuts and dates. Add the warm water and drop by tablespoonfuls onto baking sheet. Flatten, making a thumbprint in center. Fill with jam and bake at 375º for 12 minutes. Makes forty-two, 3-inch cookies.
