2 C. all-purpose flour
1/ C., plus 3 Tbl. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 C. chilled margarine, cut into small pieces
1/2 C. dried tart cherries
1/2 C. nonfat buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. almond extract
1 egg, lightly beaten

Directions:

Combine first 5 ingredients in a bowl; cut in margarine with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add cherries; toss well. Combine buttermilk and next 3 ingredients; add to dry ingredients, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened (dough will be sticky).

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and with floured hands, knead 4 to 5 times. Pat the dough into an 8-inch circle on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Cut dough into 12 wedges, cutting into, but not through dough. Brush with egg white, and sprinkle with 1 Tbl. sugar.

Bake at 400º for 18 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve warm.
