Directions:
Combine the sugar, karo and half & half and cook to the soft ball stage over medium heat. Remover from stove and begin beating immediately. It will begin to thicken and change color. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla and continue beating. Have ready the nuts and candied fruit. Add slowly to the cooled mixture. (Do not chop the nuts so the colors will show up when sliced.) When these are all added, mixture will be thick and sticky. Pack into was paper lined loaf pan, pressing down firmly with a wet spoon. Place in refrigerator to chill for several hours. It will become firm and almost white in color. After 24 hours, slice and cut each slice into finger lengths. Will keep soft in refrigerator for several months so slice as needed.
(I believe that I covered pan with wax paper and a slightly damp cloth.)
