2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. milk
6 baking apples, peeled & cored (I use Cortland apples)
1 c. water
1 1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Stir in milk until you have a soft dough. Roll out and cut into squares. Wrap peeled and cored apples with the dough. Bring remain ingredients to a boil in a saucepan. Put dumplings in a pan and pour sauce over them. Place in oven for 15 minutes and then reduce heat to 300º and bake for another 45 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or real cream. Enjoy!
