1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup molasses
1 cup hot water (or buttermilk if preferred)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325-350 degrees based on your oven. Cream the butter, sugar, and eggs. Add molasses to the creamed mixture. In a separate bowl combine the flour and spices. Add to the creamed mixture with 1 cup hot water. Beat until smooth and pour into loaf pan. Bake 35 minutes.
