Cake:

1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
3 or 4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon soda
3 tablespoons cocoa
cup warm water

Icing:

2 cups sugar
pound of butter or 2 sticks of margarine
1 cup canned cream
dash of salt

Directions:

Cake:

Mix salt, vanilla, and eggs. Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs. Add flour and milk. Then add soda, cocoa, and warm water. Bake in three 9 inch pans at 325.

Icing:

Mix all ingredients and cook for 60 minutes on low heat. Beat until creamy. Spread between cake layers and on top.
