8 C. water

Directions:
In a large pan, make a light syrup with 1/2 of the sugar and all of the water. Drop pear slices into syrup. Cook until they begin to get tender and glossy. Remove these from syrup and add the rest of the sugar. Cook to dissolve sugar. Add pears back into syrup mixture. spoon into clean pint jars. Fill to the top within 1/4" of lid. Turn jars upside down to make a seal. After the jars have cooled, touch to tope--if it can be popped in and out you will need to refrigerate the jar--if the seal is tight, you can put the jar in the pantry!!
