1/2 cup shortening(Crisco)
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar(firmly packed)
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1-6oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 cups chopped nuts(optional)

Directions:

Beat shortening, sugars, egg, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Blend in flour, soda, and salt; then stir in chocolate chips. Drop by tsp. on to un-greased cookie sheet and bake at 375º for 8-10 min. Do not allow these to become too brown. Take out early if you like them chewy.

The Crisco is the secret! Sid Taylor's favorite! Bubba always had these in her kitchen in the glass container with the green lid with the flower on top! We couldn't keep the kids out of the cookie jar!
