Betsy Brooks (Grammy)


cup Crisco
1 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
2 Tablespoon cocoa
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
2 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
1 Tablespoon vinegar

1. Cream crisco & sugar together.
2. Mix in eggs one at a time.
3. Combine together red food coloring and cocoa. Add in batter and mix.
4. Add vanilla & buttermilk to batter and mix.
5. Sift together flour, salt, and soda. Add to batter and mix.
6. Add vinegar and mix together with batter.
7. Pour batter into 2 cake pans lined with greased wax paper in bottom of pans and greased sides.
8. Bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes.
9. When cool, frost with Mystery Icing (see recipe in cookbook)
